USTA Impact, Inclusion, and Innovation Award

USTA Mid-Atlantic was pleased to announce Jack Schore Tennis and the Montgomery TennisPlex, as a winner of the 2016 Impact, Inclusion, and Innovation Award at the USTA Mid-Atlantic Conference and Awards ceremony held on November 12, 2016. This is the second year USTA Mid-Atlantic Section has awarded trophies to deserving individuals and organizations who work hard to promote and develop the growth of tennis in the community. USTA Outstanding Facility Award

The United States Tennis Association announced on July 29, 2014, that it awarded the Montgomery TennisPlex the annual 2014 USTA Outstanding Facility Award. The award "recognizes excellence in the construction and renovation of tennis facilities throughout the country" and is based upon criteria such as excellence of court surface and light, accommodation for players, spectators and media, and aesthetics. In addition, the award recognizes excellence in programming, including: programs for over 500 juniors, outreach programs held at five area schools for 100-150 students; and strong support for USTA initiatives to grow the sport of tennis. Representatives from the TennisPlex will received the honor at the USTA semi-annual meeting on Aug. 30 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City. For details, see USTA press release. USTA Mid-Atlantic Section "Facility of the Year" Award

The Mid-Atlantic Section of the USTA bestowed another accolade on the Montgomery TennisPlex and presented it with the 2014 “Facility of the Year” Award at its annual Awards Luncheon on November 22, 2014. Vicki Datlow accepted the award on behalf of the TennisPlex. Also honored at the luncheon was Vicki’s son, Elliott Datlow, who received the "Teaching Professional of the Year" award.

Tennis Industry "Outstanding Indoor Facility of the Year" Award

The Montgomery TennisPlex added a new notch to its net post with the receipt of the Tennis Industry/American Sports Builders Association 2014 "Outstanding Indoor Facility Award." Distinguished Outdoor Tennis Facility Award

The Montgomery TennisPlex received the 2013 Distinguished Outdoor Tennis Facility Award. This prestigious honor, recognizing the TennisPlex's four outstanding lighted outdoor hard courts, was awarded by the American Sports Builders Association.

The Citi Open Tennis Tournament this year features a week-long youth tennis camp. This is the "first time ever," emphasizes renowned Camp Coach Jack Schore, "that an ATP Tournament has offered an actual on-site tennis camp for juniors." He goes on to explain that the camp is the "best in the world" because it not only provides expert instruction, it also gives juniors the unique opportunity to be around the tournament all week, meet the players and see them compete, go to the media tent, hear the interviews, and immerse themselves in the professional world of tennis to which many of them aspire, including one camp participant, Calla McGill, who may win the Citi Open trophy one day. In conjunction with the "Tennis Thanks the Troops: 72-Hour Salute," the Montgomery TennisPlex hosted the "Veterans Adaptive Tennis Clinic" on June 17, 2016, under the inspired leadership of Brenda Gilmore, nationally-ranked wheelchair tennis champion. Following a car accident at age 27, Brenda was paralyzed. Tennis changed her life and she now wants to inspire wounded veterans. See the WUSA 9 News video.

The TennisPlex in South Germantown Park hosted nearly fifty top junior tennis players for college recruiting workshops at the 2nd Annual College Tennis Showcase on Saturday, July 11, 2015. The juniors played in front of college coaches from Harvard University, U.S. Naval Academy, Penn State, George Washington University, Howard University, Haverford College, Virginia State University, Salisbury State University, UMBC, Randolph College, Long Island University, Catholic University and Goucher College.

January 2014 Montgomery Tennis Plex Hosts Montgomery County Elementary School Teachers for Tennis Training in the Schools

On January 9, 2014, more than 120 physical education elementary school teachers from Montgomery County Public Schools participated in tennis groundstroke trainings during their Elementary Physical Education Teachers’ Countywide Meeting. The meeting was held in the indoor tennis bubble located at the Montgomery TennisPlex.

The weather was perfect on September 15, 2012, as more than 400 people, surrounded by great fanfare, enthusiastically watched the cutting of the grand-opening ribbon for the Montgomery TennisPlex. Watch this great video highlighting the event!

"TennisPlex "Bubbles" With Progress"
Crews began inflating the tennis bubbles at Montgomery TennisPlex. Two all-season, air-conditioned, fabric-covered buildings will house eight indoor hard courts. In April, community leaders and local tennis pros gathered in Boyds and ceremonially broke ground on the $3.5 million, 9-acre tennis facility, which is expected to open at in mid-September.
